Intro: Ch.4:3-8- specific instructions on matter of
passions of lust (sexual and greediness).
I. The Bible consistently=2 0calls God’s people to moral
behavior. Mt.19:4, Rom.13:9, I Cor.6:18
1) Basis is the appeal to God’s character- I Pet.1:13-16
2) Sanctification is process of making us like Christ.
II. Warnings and cautions from the Lord are due
For following reasons:
1) Due to God’s Holiness- fidelity to promise is critical-
see Deut. 7:8-9, 12; 8:18
Revenge- 4:6, Heb.13:4 Loss of reward-Eph.5:5
Honesty in Business is critical- Deut. 25:13-14, Amos 5:12
2) Due to sin’s harm- sin=malignant, destructive
Immorality leads to distrust, disease, disillusionment and
divorce
Greed, dishonesty leads to misery, bankruptcy, murder,
Suicide
III. Sancification means that, we as believers, have
been set apart unto God with respect to all personal
relationships. 4:3-4
1) Both immorality & greed/fraud reveal a lack of fidelity
to God and His standard.
2) Believers are to use self-control when facing passion or
greed. “not in passion of lust”- Gal.5:16-17
“like Gentiles…not God” = causative
3) God has a divine direction that we are to move toward.
Vs.7- positive vs.8- purpose of indwelling is to reproduce
character of Christ.
