STRIFE, ARGUMENTS AND DISAGREEABLE PERSONS Listen to Audio
                                   Feb.22, 2009

Intro: Prov.3:30—live in a world populated by many unpleasant
people.  We, as believers, must navigate our way past them.

I.  THE OCCASIONS FOR STRIFE ARE MANY.  Job 5;7
1) Unavoidable conflicts- Lk.17:1

2) Inconsiderate behavior- Prov.15:17

3) Disinterested attitudes-  Apathy abounds!

II. THE SOURCE OF STRIFE IS IMMEDIATE.
Our sinful nature goes everywhere we go!
1) Evident in our preference of self.     Phil.2:3

2) Evident in our pre-occupation with “rights”.

III. OBSERVE THE BENEFITS OF A CHRIST-LIKE SPIRIT.
Matt. 5-7 has much to say on this!
1) Benefit of peacemaking—Mt.5:9
James 3:17 connects peacemaking with “wisdom”.
Many external conflicts are the result of inward conflicts.
2) Benefit of reconciliation- Matt.5:25-26
3) Benefit of harmlessness- Matt.5:39-42, 10:16

IV. RESOLVE TO SETTLE STRIFE AS QUICKLY AND
AS HONESTLY AS POSSIBLE.
1) Theology of reconciliation is more Biblical than a
theology of antagonism.   Legalism= Gal.5:15
                                   Grace = Gal. 6:1
2) Choose to tolerate certain wrongs w/o retaliation
I Peter 2:20

3) Determine to pray FOR THOSE with whom you strive.
