                          MARCH 15, 2009-03-12
Intro: Ch.5:16-18- instructions here share the repeated use
of Greek word for “all” or “always”-

I. REJOICE ALWAYS- 5:16- the experience of this group
was not always easy- see 2:14, 3:3-4
1. As believers, we may rejoice even in circumstances of
sorrow and difficulty - I Peter 1:3-6

2. As believers, we may rejoice because His love
and mercy never cease.   Eph.2:4
Children’s song- “Wide, Wide as the20Ocean…….”

II. PRAY WITHOUT CEASING- 5:17
“without ceasing”= negative prefix with “leave off”-
refers to unbroken continuity

1. We may pray without ceasing because God is propitiated.
I John 2:2- God has found satisfaction in Christ’s suffering
For us— we pray in the value of the His Son!
2. We may pray without ceasing because as our Father
He delights in our approaching Him.
I Peter 3:12

III. IN EVERYTHING, GIVE THANKS-5:18  - does not
say “for” everything, but that there is cause of thanksgiving
even in the midst of great difficultly.
1. In everything, we give thanks in view of His abundant
provision on our behalf.
Praise to His Person          Thanks for His Deeds

2. In everything, we give thanks as an expression of our
trust  in Him.  If God controls all, then He
allows the reaping of our sin and the testing of our faith.
Romans 11:33-34
