Intro: Genesis 39- Joseph’s life story is of epic proportions.
This chap. includes an affluent setting, sexual inticement,
lies, deception, racism and more.
I. As a worker, Joseph reflected complete trust-
worthiness. Note 39:3-6
1. Trustworthiness is widely missed today.
2. A believer in Christ should be more reliable than others.
II. As a victim of wrongdoing, Joseph revealed
the correct attitude. Much like Jesus –I Pet.2:20-23
1. No trace here or later of Joseph settling scores.
Rom.12:17-21 Vengence grows from resentment!
2. What strength of mind & character to NOT strike
back when opportunity arises! See Gen.50:14-21
III. As obedient, Joseph reminds us that God’s
blessing accompanied by difficulties is better than
God’s discipline accompanied with ease. 39:21
1. How easy to have yielded to woman’s voice.
Joseph did go to prison but maintained God’s standard.
IV. Joseph’s response to the crisis was more
important than what happened to him.
1. From human-viewpoint, a crisis appears to us as an
out-of-control circumstance-
2. How you respond can develop or destroy your character.
Heroes are not made by circumstance, but by choice!
V. A crisis of circumstance can be weathered if
we recall that God is with us! 39:23
1. The Lord is always with His children- Heb.13:5
His presence assures us of His purposes and expresses
His power.
