Crisis in the Lives of the Saints- part 5

Intro: II Samuel 15:1-6, 10-18 & 16:5-14- David, as
King of Israel faces the crisis of rebellion led by his own
son, Absalom.
I. THE INTENSITY OF THE CRISIS- different that earlier
events in lives of Saints
1) The kingdom of Israel was placed in jeopardy-
2) There was civil confusion –see 15:6
3) And it was a family plot!- David had faced lions,
Goliath, Saul and the Philistines—now it was his own
flesh & blood.
II. THE INSULT OF SHEMEI -16:5-8
1) He cursed and defamed David (insult to injury)
“bloody” = guilty of murder, damned
2) He lies about David- 16:8
3) Taunted David- 16:6
Note- Abishai in 16:9-10
III. THE INTEGRITY OF DAVID- his qualities are
evident in this incident.
1) David’s concern for the people- 15:14- facing
personal tragedy, he was concerned for others.
2) David communed with God- 15:32- he refused to
allow circumstances to alter his relationship with God.
3) David recognized testing by the Lord- 16:11
4) David trusted God’s unending mercy- 16:12
