I. GIVES SHAPE TO DIVINE IDENTITY- 1:18-19

  “eyes of understanding” –see 4:18 for same word

 

II. STABLIZES OUR WALK- 4:1-2, 5:1-2

   1.Marked by humility

   2.Marked by love

 

III.SOLIDIFY OUR WORLDVIEW- 1:8-9

“wisdom”=insight into true nature of things

“prudence”= ability to discern action with a view to

   results

 

IV. SECURE ORTHODOXY AND ORTHOPRAXY-

4:14-15  5:8-10

  How do we obtain right beliefs & right practices?

 

V. SHARPEN OUR SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT-

5:15-18  “circumspectly”=akribos-accurate due to

carefulness

   1.Discernment leads to right investment of time.

   2.Filling of Spirit emphasizes direction

 

VI.SMOOTH OUT OUR WRINKLES-5:26-27

   1.The word of God cleanses our lives!

   2.Inculcation with doctrine looks to future as

well as present

 

VII. STIMULATE BIBLICAL OPTIMISM-3:16-19

   1. Biblical doctrine is the foundation out of which

we rejoice- 5:19-20.
