THE VALUE OF A BROKEN-HEART   PART 3 Listen to Audio

                               October 4, 2009

Intro: Psalms 34:18- this quality is not so-easily achieved

in our lives.

I.  Experience has taught us how difficult to lose

that in which we have had confidence.

1) In western culture, we trust in money—jobs—health-

our freedom---religion---marriage

2) God allows such losses of confidence through His

providence, in order for us to become aware of how we

have not trusted in Him.

II. Out of such loss, we respond to instruction

more readily.   Psa.119:50, 67, 107

1) Humility, whether voluntary or forced, is necessary

to be teachable-  Jonah listened after “great fish”adventure

III. Recall that other measures of correction may

have failed to humble us.

1) Consider just what the Holy Spirit is working to achieve.

Gal.4:19       God values =you and the character of Christ

2) Heb.12:5-13- value is on us and His goal for us

IV. Even my choice of humility may be inferior to

God’s design.   We are smug about our “virtues”-

God wishes to both toughen us and tenderize us.
