and relationships. 3 principal
characters—
I.
SIMON, THE PHARISEE- they were rigid, strict
religious
Group desiring purity in religious
observance
1. No doubt, Simon was
uncomfortable at this woman’s public
display-
vs.39
2.Simon has doubts as to Jesus as a
prophet- vs.39
He suffered from a deficient view
of Jesus.
3. Simon understands theology, but
not application.
II.
THE WOMAN, CALLED A SINNER- in gospels,
“sinner”
was someone who publicly disregarded
observance of the Law.
1.She expressed her repentant heart
both emotionally and
behaviorally.
2. Emotions are a constructive
outlet for transition/adjustment
to change:

expressive of her love-
It illustrates love as a
consequence, not cause of
forgiveness.
4. The woman is
forgiven.
III.
THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.
1. Jesus had a magnanimous spirit-
see 11:37, 14:1, 19:5
2. He was gentle in parable, yet
firm in application.
3. He desired and received
love.
