Intro: Matt.27:45-60- many
different characters are
seen in the gospels, all of which
contribute to the
attractiveness of the Lord
Jesus.
I.
As a wealthy man, Joseph was an
exception
to
the rule.
27:57 “become a disciple of Jesus”
1) Alert to spiritual events, he waited
for kingdom of
God- Mk.15:43 see
Mt.19:24
2) Not to say that the rich cannot be
converted
II.
As to reputation & character, Joseph
was
untarnished. Lk.23:50
1) Anyone with a real sense of justice
should be
attracted to
Jesus
2) This is part of theory of child
rearing-
Prov.22:6
III.
As a member of Sanhedrin, Joseph
was
absent
from the trial of Jesus.
Lk.23:51
Why? 1) not
contacted—doubtful
2) Perhaps he spoke for the Lord—no
evidence
3) Perhaps the Lord intervened-
Mk.15:1
What a difficult night
Joseph must have had!
Yet, it fulfilled
Zech.13:7.
IV.
As a disciple, he was flawed but
repentant.
John 19:38 “..but
secretly, for fear of the Jews..”

poor.

Isa.
