Intro: Isaiah 66:13- God is said to “comfort as a

mother comforts..”

I.God,like a mother, comforts us by a diligent care

of our clothing and social training.

 1)  see Isa. 61:10

 2) Social graces-  Eph. 5:1-5

II. God, like a mother, comforts us thru guarding

our environment from destructive influences.

  1) Mothers use influence on small ones-

enemies of believers: world, flesh & devil

  2) Indwelling of H.Spirit allows God to be everywhere

III. God, like a mother, comforts us with tender-

ness when we are injured.

  1) Mothers help with scrapes/bruises- James 5:11

  2) Yet, how we resist having ointment put on an

injury!  Isa.1:5-6

IV. God, like a mother, comforts us by foreseeing

our needs.

  1) Mothers guard what a child eats and withholds

food when necessary- Amos 8:11-12

  2)  Mothers know when rest is essential

V.  God, like a mother, comforts us thru the power

of unfailing, sacrificial love.

   1) Mothers have long been examples of giving love.

Christ was willing to be identified with criminals and
