July 22,
2007
Intro: Psalms 5:1-12- David seeks
the Lord
I.
Plea for a divine audience- 5:1-3 “Give ear..heed”
1) Personal- “my words…my
meditation…my cry…”
2) Priority- vs.3 “in the morning”-
(twice)
Day begins with sense of freshness-
Mt.6:33, Psa.55:17
Jesus did this- Mark
1:35
II.
Describes the corruption of the wicked- 5:4-6
3 ways God shows His opposition-
“no pleasure in
wicked”, “hate
all workers of iniquity”, and
“abhors the
bloodthirsty and..”
See also Psa.
7:11
III.
Plea for divine affirmation- 5:7-8 “but for me..”
1) Location- “…your hold
Temple..”- place of divine
mercy—in NT, that is the Cross of
Christ- Eph.2:16, Col.1:20
and 2:14. We
find forgiveness and mercy at the “cross”.
2) Leadership- “lead me, O
LORD..”
Psa.23:3
IV.
Describes the criminality of the wicked- 5:9-10
1) Destructive power of
words- “mouth…inward…throat..
tongue”. We live in a world of millions of
words both
read and
heard.
2) Downfall of the
wicked- 5:10- “guilty”-
Self-induced judgment- “fall by
their own counsels”
V.
Plea for aid- 5:11-12- note- “but let
all”
1) Joy of the Lord- “rejoice” J =Jesus O=others Y=you
2) Favor of the Lord-
“defend….surround” =promise of
protective
measures.
