Intro: II Timothy 3:13-17- written late in Paul’s life, it
summarizes the Christian perspective of Bible.
I. THE SUPERIORITY OF SCRIPTURE - 3:15
1) No other book than the Bible can tell you how
to be right with the Creator.
2) No other book than the Bible tells you of the wonder
and work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
3) No other book than the Bible tells us of the marvelous
grace of God
II. THE SOURCE OF HOLY SCRIPTURE- 3:16
1) Vs.16 is describing a revelation of truth
from God, not a discovery of ideals by man.
2) This revelation is in words.
Infallible =incapable of mistakes, reliable
Inerrant = without error
III. THE SERVICE OF HOLY SCRIPTURE- 3:16
1) Doctrine- foundational truths of Person
and work of God.
2) Reproof- truths that expose our errors in belief
and conduct
3) Correction- replacement truths to build with
4) Instruction- preventative truths to guide
IV. THE SUFFICIENCY OF HOLY SCRIPTURE -3:17
“complete” and “thoroughly equipped” from same root
word- artios All that is needed for godliness is found
in the Holy Scriptures.
