Intro:  Ch.2:25- “have returned to the Shepherd”-

Part one- the character  of our Shepherd—

 

I. Christ is the Good Shepherd-  John 10:11,14

1) He is self-less- “gives his life…”   Acts 10:38

2) How is He “good”?-  Mark 10:18

  Quotes from Jewish views…

 

 

II. Christ is the Great Shepherd- Heb.13:20

blood of the everlasting covenant”

1) He achieved an unchanging covenant- see 8:7-8

 

2) He provided permanent forgiveness- 9:12-14

Difference between a pardon and probation!

 

3) He obtained a secure benefit- 9:15- “eternal inheritance”

He placed us in a position for multiple benefits- Eph.1:6

  What is a “cast” sheep?

 

III. Christ is the Chief Shepherd- I Peter 5:4

1) As “chief” shepherd, no one is above Him, nor equal to

Him in authority- 2:25- bishop    3:22 “subject to Him”

4:11 “to whom be glory….”

 

2) We await His appearing (shine or manifest brightness)-

John 10:16 and 10:3- “voice of the shepherd”

 

3) We await His reward—“crown of glory”

 

4) He has appointed under-shepherds-  pastors’- from

the Middle English taken from Latin = “food”
