Intro: Ch.2:4 – 8 – Paul addresses Timothy in how to wage

a good warfare (1:18)-

I. Reference to Christ’s Saving work-

 

(1) God has removed all impediments to the saving of men

and women-  2:4

  Barriers of sin are removed thru suffering of Christ.

Jn.3:16, I John 2:2 and II Cor.5:14, 19,20  II Peter 3:9

 

(2)Saving or deliverance by God appears frequently in

I Timothy with a broad application:

“God,our Savior”- 1:1, 2:3, 4:10

“saved” -1:15, 2:4- general  2:15 –unique to women

4:15- unique to ministers.

 

(3) Our One God provides salvation thru One Man-2:5

 

(4) This One Man & Mediator gave Himself- 2:6

“ransom for all”-  unique word and phrase

 

II. Representation of this Saving Work- vs.6,7, 8

 

(1) This is the ‘season’ of witness- 2:6- in due time

 

 

(2) Paul has been appointed to function as a major voice

during this ‘season’- 2:7- preacher, apostle, teacher

II Tim.1:11, Col.1:25, Eph.3:1-4, 8-9, Rom.11:13

 

(3) Paul calls for prayer in view of this ‘season’- 2:8

men pray everywhere – public male leadership

holy hands – applied godliness

w/o wrath-  absence of vindictiveness, hatred, malice

w/o doubting-  [disputes]- absence of conflict- Jam.1:6-8
