Intro:  Chap.4:10-23- reveals matters of how God worked thru

Paul and his relationship with church at Philippi-

I. COMPASSION-4:10- “your care for me..flourished again”

“care”= phroneo- 1:7, 2:2,5, 3:15,16, 19

 compassion-sorrow for suffering of others, accompanied by an

  urge to help

II.CAPACITY-4:11-13-

 1) “I have learned”  (vs.11)= consummation of the verb

 2) “I have learned- vs.12  (KJV “am instructed”)

 3) “I can do all…Christ”- Key to capacity!

As the character of Christ is reproduced in us by Spirit we

mature so as to handle prosperity or privation!

III.COMMENDATION- 4:14 “you have done well”

Uses a participle form of Greek, koinonia= have in common

IV. CHARITABLENESS- 4:15-18- Center point of closing.

1) Reviews events-  vs.15-16-- 4 times they gave to Paul—

2) Reports the gift- vs.18- language of worship/sacrifice

V. COMPENSATION- 4:19 “God shall supply all …need”

  1) Cannot outgive God- Luke 6:38-39

  2) Principle of generosity- Prov. 11:24-28  22:9
